A lot of people are nervous about public speaking. I am a bit, sometimes.
I also feel that people are laughing at me, sometimes. I have come to see that they sort of are, sometimes, but it's a nervous sort of a response from them, and they are seeking reassurance from others (me), rather than meaning anything malevolent by it.
I'm not very good at looking stangers in the eye and smiling in a friendly way. I tend to look to the side / look down. Groups of girls are the worst for giggling out of nervousness. If I could look strangers in the eye and smile calmly it would help them feel reassured / more at ease and they would laugh less...
Anyway... I just mean to say that sometimes when people laugh around you it doesn't mean they are laughing *at* you or that they are being malovolent.
I actually find groups of people quite threatening. Mostly because there typically will be one or two who will take it as some kind of personal affront that I don't look at them and smile... And they will eventually start up with 'what's her problem'? And so on... So that they basically... Are being malevolent and malevolently laughing at me...
But it comes from their liking me and wanting me to be their friend.
Sigh.
People, huh.
Yep.
