I realize that there are tons of very grave news tragedies, especially with those poor, poor children who lost their lives to a monster, so forgive me if this seems petty by comparison. I am learning to live, love, care, and laugh (and cry) sooo much more. The journey continues...
Well, after a few operations over the past month, it looks like (I hope to God!) my Mom is slowly getting through this. She had one final (I hope) operation this morning to add more coil to the aneurysm (this is an AMAZING procedure where they run a tube through her artery from the upper body to the actual aneurysm, and release a little coil in it (the aneurysm) to cause fast clotting of the blood, and prevent leakage into the brain which causes pressure build up, and more strokes.
Before she had this second procedure, she was actually up, in a wheelchair, and sat with my Dad and I for about 45 minutes, then she needed to rest. She actually laughed at a couple of my jokes, and had some of her own smart remarks herself. So, that tells me that the 'core' of my Mom is there, and again knock on wood, all of her thoughts and emotions are intact and will arise over several months. The Surgeon said her progress has been amazing. At 73, she exercises, never smokes, watches her diet very closely, and it seems all of this has been helpful in her recovery. She also has a will of steel, which obviously helped. Now we are just waiting for her recovery from her second operation, in which everything apparently went very well.
Thanks so much for your kind thoughts, prayers, etc.
Jay
