The Springsteen song you refer to is one of my favourites, ever, as 9/11 showed all of the good in humanity in the face of horror. I know this sounds a bit backwards, but to me that day showed that good, that love triumphs over evil. I think that is such an important message. Every story I have read talks about so much selflessness, from among all of the people in the towers to the EMS rushing in to buildings when everybody was running out. I think it might qualify as the event in history that showed the largest display of goodwill, and yes I would call all of the actions selfless love, ever.
