I wasn't allowed to show anger or be assertive at home or I would be beaten. This is one of the reasons I became a people-pleaser in a way that was unhealthy form me. I felt that the punishment for my being assertive around people whose approval I sought was to be disapproved of indefinitely. I avoided conflict at all costs and tried to be all things to all people just to be liked and approved of. I still have some work to do on this.
