Anger and hurt with my therapist

Posted by TEK on June 17, 2009, at 21:29:26

I have been seeing my therapist for over 3 years. She has helped me a great deal with issues resulting from sexual abuse when I was a child. I also had an intense eating disorder and she helped me through that as well. Here is where my problem comes in. Around the time I started seeing her I was having some issues with my boss...not major issues, but enough that I would talk about them in therapy, and on one occasion I was very upset because my boss (who was also supposedly my friend) gave me a bad reference when I was going for a job that was a big promotion for me. I talked to my therapist about this. Well...I ended up leaving that job...got the big promotion, and still kept in some contact with that boss. I never addressed the fact with her about the bad reference etc...because I wasn't supposed to know. However, I did talk about it more in therapy. As time goes on - my former boss has a break down and I found out that she too was sexually abused as a child. I told her about the treatment that I received and gave her the number of another therapist who did the same type of treatment. She wanted to see my therapist and was sobbing asking for the number..telling me she was suicidal etc... So...I did end up giving her my therapist number, but talked to my therapist about how I felt, and she said that she would just see her and give her information about the specific treatment and then refer her elsewhere. As it turns out she started seeing her...I told my therapist right away how this made me feel, and I do believe she realized she made a mistake. She said that she had forgotten about the bad reference thing etc... This was in November and I still haven't been able to work through it. I feel that it is a total conflict of interest for her to see both of us, and I feel that I shouldn't be the one who has to leave. Does anyone have any insight or suggestions?
