Can we talk pillows?

Posted by Dinah on June 5, 2009, at 17:15:42

I've been having serious problems lately with pillows. I get migraines from waking up with my neck in an odd position. Even if the headache goes away once I get up and relax my neck, it invariably comes back sometime during the day.

Also, my upper back is so tense when I wake up that my first few words are yelps.

My latest pillow experiment was a water filled pillow that is supposed to be good for this problem. Instead it's become the standard by which to judge all future bad pillows. Not only did I wake up with a migraine, but I was hunched over, and had what I think is nerve pain from an old bathing injury.

After I got rid of my standard pillows, I've tried those shaped ones with a hole for the head, this water one, the husk filled one, and a wedge. The husk filled one worked for a while, but apparently I burrow my head and manage to bunch even that one in a way that forces my neck up. The wedge is pretty good except that my neck has no support. But at least my neck doesn't end up at an unnatural angle upwards.

It's funny, because I really don't move in my sleep. Except I apparently move my head.

Any ideas? Any pillows that work? For a head burrower?
