Cat lovers only: Hairballs

Sorry if this is a gross topic, but I was hoping someone could come up with some ideas. I have a sweet little 6-year-old longhaired cat who has suddenly started to have hairballs every day. I have been giving her anti-hairball treats every day, but that only helps a little. Any remedies? Any ideas why this is happening all of a sudden?
