Son has made an appointment for the initial meeting Monday at a local agency. Says he realizes he needs help. I am cautiously & calmly optimistic....not having HUGE hopes, etc.

Thx for your kind words & support. My T is LIVID that our son hasn't had a 'psych review' or meds review. Her comments to me triggered my husband & I to realize that our son has 2 types of drug use:

1) Party on Dude (no description necessary!)

2) When he is under huge stress (eg GF leaving him; recent reality of getting his own place, afraid of not being able to make a go of it on his own & of not being able to control his drug mis-use) he can go into BIG debt to buy cocaine or ketamine to use ALONE (not partying at all) to just be able to COPE with his awful feelings.

My T is livid because she sees it as him self-medicating & thinks he should have prescribed medication to use when he feels his anxiety building too much. She said maybe Ativan. I don't know much about meds like that - comments welcome & I might ask on the Meds board if I get the mental energy to do so.

ANYway, we've written an email to send to his mental health case worker, asking for his 'team' to support us in coming up with a solution for this second type of drug-use problem.

Obviously he needs to learn healthy coping-with-stress methods! But in the meantime, he needs something to help him not fall into the downward spiral.

I guess we'll see what happens. I mentioned this idea to him today. It seemed to be a totally foreign thought to him....actually recognizing where he's at & possibly having something to help. He didn't say much. I said to give it a bit of thought. Asked hubby to talk with son about it as he listens to hubby differently than to me.

We'll see, I guess. Meanwhile, thx for being there for me. It means a lot.

:-) Kath
