I've definitely been there! Its the most frustrating feeling.

I bet its more about themselves than you. They are probably so unhappy with themselves that they have to put you down to feel better. Unfortunately there's a lot of people like that out there. But you're right, let them have at it. The only way they win is if you give them the reaction they are looking for.
