We used to sing The Jam's 'Eton Rifles' as... » finelinebob

We used to make up our own lyrics, too. The Jam's "Eton Rifles" became "Eating Waffles." "Fire in Cairo" became "Eat My Shorts" -- believe it or not, the "F I R E I N C A I R O" rhythm worked perfectly for "E A T M Y S H O R T S." A song by Dexy's Midnight Runners had a sort of "ooh ooh aah ahh" bit in the chorus, we used to sing as "ooh ooh aah aah ee ee tookie tookie" -- kinda like the tookie tookie bird in "George of the Jungle." (I can't remember the name of that song, but it was one of the first singles -- maybe before ""Searching for the Young Soul Rebels.")

Of course, my brain -- which is made of Swiss cheese right now -- is not supplying other examples. But I will say it was fun...

Nice wander on the banks of Memory, though...
