In reply to what did people do before trashy magazines?, posted by LlurpsieNoodle on May 31, 2007, at 21:40:21
Oh, I think that these magazines have been around for a long time!! and they were part of the Hollywood machinery. It sued to be more overt, with planted stories and scheduled interviews, that's all. When the star/starlet system broke down in the late 50's, along with the studios and their star-making departments, it all went underground. And it ended up on the check out line of the grocery store. That's my sociological take on the evolution, anyway.
But unless you watch E!, how are you supposed to keep up on all the gossip these days?
I love how people read the magazines whilst in line and then put them back before they check out. Like I never do it.... "Oh, I never read this stuff!!"sp
