I read the book, Phillipa, although quite a while ago.
I mostly remember the atmosphere of decadence, mystery, and fascination with the devil-may-care but enigmatic life and character of the eponymous hero-- & the socalled "beautiful people" drifting in and out of dazzling all-night parties held at his lavish Long Island estate, etc.
I read a lot of F.Scott Fitzgerald novels at some point- I think there were a couple I liked more-- although this is better known.
Might have to look back at them-- it's been a while.
