Hey Dinah,
My cat would be purrrrrfect for you. She's front-declawed (got her from the shelter that way) and is neither a lap-cat nor a scaredy cat. You can play with her, brush her, give her treats, but she wouldn't bother you all the time by climbing into your lap. She'll sleep at your toes.
She'll even crawl under the covers if you let her. Somehow she can stay under all night long dodging my crazy-kicking husband.
