stopping negative traits learned from mom

Posted by AllisonP on August 21, 2006, at 9:18:17

I'm realizing many of the negative traits my mother has - very passive-aggressive and being very dramatic and manipulative (she does have good qualities as well). I look back and can see that I've picked up on and have the same traits.

I would like to be direct in my relationships with others and not manipulative. I'd like to have a better understanding of passive-aggressive behavior so that I can recognize it in myself (and hopefully stop it).

I don't want to turn into my mother. I'd appreciate any suggestions on getting a better understanding of that personality type, and recognizing when I'm falling into that familiar rut.

I am in therapy and have talked about this with my therapist, but I'd love to hear some other voices and opinions.

Thanks.
