It's called "depression."
Here's a reality check, in case yours bounces:
Since high school, you've been in school, right? That exempts you from the pathetic loser label.
You know what, though? It kinda feels to me as though posts like this one are largely about getting reassurance from others. That's a general statement, not just about you Deneb. There's nothing wrong with wanting reassurance, but it's something that therapy is good for -- exploring why you want that reassurance, and why you can't give it to yourself. And seeing a pdoc for half an hour once or twice a month is not therapy. Therapy is a 45 to 50 minute session AT LEAST once a week.
Lastly, as someone who really can qualify as "not having made anything of my life since high school" -- that is, since my last full day of high school in 1979 -- I have to ask you where you're getting that phrase about "make something of my life?" What does that mean? That's not a Deneb phrase. Whose phrase is it? Where is that coming from?
Whoops! That's something else to explore in therapy.
