Well, the menu was pretty good. S and I went to the store after work, and her husband was going to make us an appetizer 'cause we were starving
We get back from the store and there are butterflied shrimp in chipotle sauce on corn tortillas with queso fresco and kumquat relish (KUMQUAT RELISH!) dude. the guy went all out!! It made me miss my husband (who would have gotten out a bag of chips and put salsa in a bowl, if he was feeling fancy) But he's my husband, you know.
The grilled food was kebabs of mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, onions, baby bell peppers, marinated flank steak. also grilled potatoes. WOW!
I made an insalata caprese, which is layers of sliced tomato (they weren't very good tomatoes) fresh mozzarella and basil leaves, with cracked pepper and sea salt.
and dessert was gluten free cake (someone's got celiac disesase) and spumoni ice cream and espresso chip ice cream.
S also made homemade lemonade from real lemons and sugar. It was so sweet of her, because she knew I wasn't going to drink any beer or wine.
It's funny about friends. I know S is one of the most stable, reasonable, kind people in my circle. When I was feeling my worst, I never even thought of her. I thought of my friends who were gossips, who would talk about my mental illness to others who could manipulate and spite me. I think that's the real danger- not just reaching out for help when we need it, but recognizing that there are options out there.
