Ugh, talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place!! What a frustrating and demoralizing situation to be in, particularly when you know you can retire soon, although with some penalty (no continuing insurance). If you really want to try and stick it out for the next five years, and you feel you have the mental fortitude to do so, perhaps you could see if there are any possibilities for a transfer to a more stimulating position within your organization, which might make another five years of working more bearable. There is nothing worse than feeling under-utilized and unchallenged at work, especially when you have to spend 8 hours a day there. I don't know, but I think I would make some enquiries and take it from there, if you feel you are up to making a change that is. I know, personally, I couldn't go in to work each day if I weren't being challenged and continuously occupied (I had a boring job once and got out as quickly as possible - it was sucking the life out of me, and that was just after a month of boredom). It is just too depressing, and it affects other aspects of your life because it can become exhausting being bored for the better part of the day. And, sometimes just putting out some feelers to see what else is out there can help one feel a little less trapped and helpless. It's not an easy situation to deal with, though, that's for sure. Good luck.
