very scary indeed. i have been through many w/o a basement and the best advice is to get in the most stable, center area of your home that is lowest to the ground. preferably no windows like a closet. always have a mattress to cover your heads from debri, a battery powered radio, working flashlights, a first aid kit, a couple gallons of water on hand. if you live in a common area where tornado's hit, do any neighbors have a cellar? i would ask for the safety of you and your family. maybe for your own comfort, look up the emergency center in your area that handles these situations and ask for advice...hope that helps some.
