Well if she spoke that way to your daughter, it's no doubt that she speaks like that in general, No wonder her child has no self esteem, and is afraid to tell the truth.

I'd be angry too, and I'm not a mom, but I hear that people who don't have kids cannot fathom the sort of protectiveness that comes over you.Is there a chance that you could maybe tell her that it's just not a good way to speak to any child.. period, and why it isn't?
I'm not assuming there is, I know with some people you just can't. And if she has a severe anger problem all it will do is embarrass them, and they'll take that out on the child.You never know though, maybe it will be the beginning of her learning something.
From the sounds of things, she didn't have a healthy upbringing either.
