It makes you wonder how many honest people are really out there. Of course, there's no way to get a count since all the liars would lie about it.
I try to focus on the good things I hear about, like JenStar said. There's nothing you can do about the bad people out there, so all you can do is be the sometimes lone person who does the right thing. You have no way of knowing how many people you may influence, and will probably seldom get a thank you. But I'll always remember how complete strangers have helped me when I needed it, like when you break down on a busy highway, or trip and fall (which I seem to do alot), or accidently give someone a $20 instead of a $5. Those kind of people make my day. So I try to be that person who maybe will make someone else's day.
If we only do good deeds expecting recognition or thanks, nobody would ever be nice! I like to think of these selfless good deeds as payment to the people who helped me out. What comes around goes around.

Okay, I know that sounded totally Pollyanna, but it really is the philosophy I try to live my life by.
