All - I met John Grohol, PsyD in the fall of 1999 in a free chat room session. He held these chats twice a week, during the evening, on his own time for many years. He still does this once a week at PsychCentral.
When we first chatted I was in the midst of an awfully painful period of my life. He spent time talking me though that night and several bad nights later that year. This had a huge impact on me, but the funny thing is that John doesn’t even remember it, since he’s done this so many times.
Since then I have attended many chats, and later, posted on his boards at PC. During all those years I have never seen him act in any way which was not supportive and kind. Of course, sometimes he must be the voice of the admin too, but that’s his job.
What happened yesterday was the one and only time in all those years that I’ve seen him lose that supportive nature. I’m fine with writing it off to “bad day” because I’ve known his work over the course of all these years. Those of you who know him only by that one day…well, you can chose to judge him by that one day, or decide not to do that.
I’m sure we’ve all had days by which we would not care to be judged.
I hope this will be a forgotten soon. I just wanted people to see another side.
I wish you all the best. emmy
