Congratulations on getting engaged! That's wonderful!
The holidays *always* depressed the heck out of me. Doesn't matter what meds I'm on or what's going on in my life. Even now, I've actually got a new guy in the picture who seems to be wonderful, and I *still* feel like cr** right now.
I'm afraid I don't have any good advice for you, though, to deal with anxiety. Unless you, like me, always expect the Currier and Ives version of Christmas, which I never get. I try to tone down (way down) my expectations of the holidays.
In any event, enjoy your engagement and the holidays the best you can. :-) And I'm glad the Effexor seems to be working for ya!
