In reply to election making depression worse, posted by Louisa on November 3, 2004, at 12:25:45

I have been bummed all day about the election too. But I really feel sorry for my kids who will have to pay off the burgeoning deficit, my elderly clients who face a redesign of Medicare, my gay and lesbian friends who wanted to have the same rights as I have, my daughters who, should they get pregnant God forbid, may have the Federal government interfere with their right to choose how to treat their own bodies, everyone who breathes the air and is effected by global warming, my daughter who wants to study in Europe where increasing hatred for Americans threatens her safety, are among a myriad of other things to cry about. But I'm convinced that it won't be all bad. This is a great country where at least half of the populace thinks differently than conservatives. Where the courts, Congress, puplic opinon, world opinion and a vigilant press helps keep an administration from straying too far from the mainstream. I wish I could give you more hope than this.
