I did love Lassie. But I had this incredibly disillusioning experience when I was around 8 y.o. and my family went on our first real vacation--drove all over the US. When in San Francisco, we were at the wax museum just when they were filming a Lassie episode (it was that two part episode about Lassie having amnesia and being lost in SF). The disillusionment came when we saw all the efforts it took just to get Lassie to look in the right direction and bark, etc. etc. OMG--I really had, up until that point, thought she was truly a smart and communicative dog, unlike any other in the world. And there she was needing people to bang on a gong to make her turn her head, and dangle a treat over her to get her to bark, etc. Sigh. The show was never quite the same for me again.

Cubby from Mouseketeers--trying to remember which one he was. I have a feeling that when I watched the Mouseketeers it was already reruns. But I remember loving it.

I was a Captain Kangaroo kid, too. I liked Mr. Green Jeans, can't tell you why, but I did. But of course, later, when I was in junior high, there were rumors going around about Mr. Green Jeans not being quite as wholesome a character as we'd all beleived.
