I want to cry in class

Today, like it has happened many times since I was little, I said something in class and as I said it suddenly began to tremble, and my voice trembled as well.
My eyes filled up with water, and had to pinch myself for a few minutes to prevent me from crying.
I have social anxiety. My p-doc says eventually I'll get over it. But what is he basing these expectation on?
