Matchmaking service for individuals in therapy?

Posted by Phyl on January 8, 2003, at 21:02:34

It's true.
(San Antonio Express News) A psychoanalyst (Dr. Frederick B. Levenson)in New York is offering a matchmaking service, but only for those who have been in psychotherapy for at least two months in the past two years can apply.
"Theoretically, the process cuts through misleading false impressions and matches people according to the lay of their psychodynamic land. Couch-clients deemed compatible are then given each other's names/numbers."
Levenson believes people in counseling make great catches. Those in therapy represent "an elite group...They are among the brightest, most verbal people in America" says his Web site. "There is more depth in somebody who is willing to look into themselves, and whether we offend people or not, we consider people in therapy smarter than the general public," Levenson told a reporter. 5,000 people within two weeks logged onto www.theradate.com after its launch last March.

Levcnson charges $2,000 for up to eight introductions a year.

Many therapists have issues with TheraDate concept saying it muddies the therapist-client relationship - which needs to stay straightforward and pure - and in essence turns psychotherapists into glorified meddling old aunties.

Gosh! Wanna check it out?
