Interesting. Your Phil is totally different than mine. Mine is more stocky and weathered. Your Phil sounds sexier actually.
I can understand the intense email thing with the Anyana dude. I had a thing like that with an old college friend who was married at the time and lived very far away. It got completely obsessive, but it was not overtly romantic or sexual. We wrote long letters too. It really dominated my emotional life. He visited me and there was just nothing there in person. We had a fight over nothing and didn't speak for a couple years, then I reached out again. This time his wife got involved in the whole mess and she also sent me a long intense letter. Such drama. I visited the two of them a couple times. On one visit he for some reason fed-exed me a letter right before I drove out, explaining some vital detail of the whole emotional storm. Eventually I couldn't take the triangle and the drama anymore and sort of ditched him.
Recently I started it up with him again. I think it may actually be sort of a normal, somewhat healthy relationship now. He's divorced and with a new girlfriend, and that intensity is gone from our correspondence. I'm not sure if I"m really OK with it though, I feel a bit rejected by him, like I'm doing all the work. It's hard for me not to switch into obsessive mode. The other day I actually had the notion of getting him to join Babble. Better keep talking about him here instead.
