In reply to anyone else?, posted by dinah yet again on May 26, 2002, at 20:16:04

Dinah, (I'm going on the assumption that this is the same dinah that has been posting since I registered in December)

I don't know what post it was from Krazy Kat that upset you...I don't really know what's going on in general, but yes, you do seem to be in a lot of pain. And I will tell you what I've noticed. My words come only from a compassionate, supportive and honest place.

What I have noticed is that you rely heavily on our opinions of you; of being understood by us, of being liked...I would love this board be just one of many, many sources for you. A source of inspiration, support, humor, feedback...even a place to debate or just chat. We are a sounding board and a place to come to gather others opinions and thoughts. Hopefully, then, we take what makes us curious or gets our minds going or what we relate to and go to our pdocs, our therapists, our good friends to REALLY gain an understanding of the answers we seek. It seems like you are an extremely sensitive person - which can be a blessing and a curse. And so it seems a post can ruin your whole day. This board can be very dangerous because we aren't talking face to face - we can't register facial expressions or intonations in others voices. People, I think for the most part, have a hard time expressing themselves and saying what they are really thinking and feeling anyway. To try to deal with such sensitive topics on a message board on the internet is a real challenge! A misunderstanding here and there is inevitable. People most likely write things quickly and press the "post" button. The ability to take things with a grain of salt is - I think - imperative for one to have a healthy relationship with the members on this board. Remember that we *all* may be sensitive, depressed, feeling like dying, looking for hope, looking for answers, or any combination thereof! With a group like this, misunderstandings and conflict are bound to arise!

I want you to continue to post and read posts here. You have great insight, sensitivity and compassion toward others. We like having you here.
I genuinely am concerned, however, that this board can be detrimental to your well being.

So that's what I've noticed. I hope I didn't say anything to hurt you...again, everything I say comes from a compassionate place.

Take care,

Sarah
