It's hard to keep track of all the people who touch our lives, but one really stands out in my mind. His name was "Blackie." My husband says all I did for years was talk about him, idolize I guess. I met him personally several months after I had OD.
As a child I had been scared of him, imagine the godfather type. Rumours! Anyway he turned out to be like a grandfather to me in a time I dearly needed one. (Just writing this I realize I fell apart shortly after his death. Sure I mourned, but I did some drastic other things too. Well that's another story.) He taught me how to make a pie crust. It always turned out so good and it was fun to alternate stuffings.
Whenever I messed up, I would ask him what went wrong and he would remind me how to make it. In hindsight I should have wrote it done. Several years after he had passed on the dough wasn't working. The only way to describe what happened after is that I had a bad tantrum. When it was over I was on the kitchen floor sobbing and dough was all over the kitchen.
