The book needs to be updated—it was written decades ago and describes people in a society that no longer exists (women in homemaker roles only, etc.).
But it's similar to cognitive behavioral therapy techniques in the way it works, although it isn't therapy—more a focused,working support group.
I will probably go again if I can find a meeting at a convenient time and place and try to overlook some of the program's outward peculiarities.
It's worth trying one meeting to see if you like it.
