Greg,
Without knowing anything about your previous employer or if you are covering dependents, make sure your not getting jipped on your COBRA rights (this seems high to me if you are just covering yourself) - the employer cannot charge you more than 102% of their premium cost (unless it is disability related, then they can charge up to 150%). Another good source of information can be found at www.benefitslink.com
Then do a search using the word "COBRA." Some of the information is pretty technical (for attorneys and human resource type folks), but a lot of it is pretty readable.
