My T does that too... I know how hard it can be. He's explained that sometimes when he's at home he just completely forgets to check his messages. It's not that he doesn't care, he just is very distractable (which I have seen evidence of). It's not an excuse, and it's really not a good practice, but at least ask your T about it or address it in some way and give him/her the opportunity to rectify the situation before terminating.
