Funny you should ask that. While in itself the appt time is no big deal, when it is in the context of seeing someone a couple of times a week for years and years, it can become a force to be reckoned with.

I used to have Mon and Thurs meeting times and then last year we switched to 10am Tues and Fri, same as Dinah (!). So time of day and venue (he has two offices) are the same - both good. But while I am OK on Tues, I've developed what we now refer to as the "Friday effect." I'm not sure why, it's just that the little piece of the relationship that feels abandoning really looms large on Fridays for some reason. Before we caught on to the pattern, I would frequently find myself phoning him after a Fri session to clarify something or continue a thought - OK to do but it rarely happened after a Tues session. Then I started getting anxious about even the prospect of the Friday session and for a while, didn't even want to go on Fridays at all! Almost a phobia, except I'm not sure what it's all about. I have heard of phobias about the letter 13 but never one specifically about Fridays! Actually I like Fridays, end of the work week and all, so this is specific for therapy sessions. I told him the only thing I'm in touch with about the different feels of the two sessions is that on Tuesdays, I feel like I'm swimming in a pool and on Fridays, it feels more like the open ocean. Go figure!

I don't want to spend valuable therapy time trying to figure out the reasons behind "freaky Friday" for me - I'm tempted to just change back to Mon, Thurs and call it a day...
