Hi bent,

I do believe she would mean figure out or try to identify what feeling(s) or thought(s) made you want to cut/numb out, i.e. what were you not wanting to think or feel/deal with or what were you reacting to in your mind and feelings when you got the urge to do this.

I think we do get susceptible to unpleasant reactions after therapy sessions, and sometimes it takes a few days to process what the therapy has stirred up inside us. I call it therapy hangover, and some hangovers are worse and longer than others. I've had a few bad and long ones. I just had to keep keep going over what's going on from session to session.
