insurance coverage for therapy

Posted by CareBear04 on April 26, 2005, at 13:29:59

hi everyone--
i was out of the country for awhile, so i wasn't keeping up with american news. my mom says that there was legislation passed recently so that beginning next year, psychiatric treatment has to be covered on par with any other medical treatment. i don't know whether this is just in our state or whether it is national-- i would think national because the big insurance companies cover patients in many states. if it's true, that would be great. my inpatient and outpatient psych coverage in the past few years hasn't come close to being enough, and my parents have had to pay the balance, which i feel bad about. does anyone know more about this? thanks!
