My T's helpful response

Posted by alexandra_k on October 11, 2004, at 23:16:59

I get very down about there being nobody who is willing to work with me. I vaccilate between being really angry at the system for giving me such a bum deal and trying to figure out just what it is about me that is so repulsive to others.

I wrote to my T and told him that I didn't know how I felt about him agreeing to work with me as he has made it so very clear that he is only doing it because nobody else will work with me.

I said that there aren't too many people in the world who like it when others feel sorry for them and so I didn't know how I felt.

He said that the decision wasn't personal: it was ethical. Nobody else will work with me, but he thinks that I should be seen by somebody and he was able to transfer some of his clients to another p-doc. He said that people don't want to work with me because I am a 'difficult' case.

Just hearing that makes me want to pout and stamp my feet and construct a logical proof for the conclusion: I AM NOT DIFFICULT.

Trouble is, I see what he means (sigh).

His response was helpful to me. I tend to take things overly personally, but I thought he offered me a very nice alternative explanation indeed. (And it only took me 7 days to come to that conclusion!)
