Funny that this post came up today, as I just gave my T a birthday gift. :)

In my opinion, since your T knows you "Google" him and have found tidbits of information as a result, I think it would be okay if you wished him a Happy Birthday. How did he react when you told him of the things you have found about him, and that you search for info? If he understood and seemed okay about it, then I'd say it would be okay to mention a birthday wish. If he reacted in a negative way to it, though, then maybe it's best you not mention you've found out anything else.
