How physical is the Mind's Eye?

Posted by Kalamatianos on January 3, 2004, at 13:14:44

The Mind’s Eye is a physical attribute of the human body. However, it’s physical nature was not clearly understood until very recently. Since the Mind’s Eye is produced in the visual cortex of the brain, prima-facia would indicate that it emerges from a physical component of the brain and therefore is a physical human attribute.

There are really nine senses stored in eight sensory imaging centers, both olfactory (smell) and taste are stored in the gustatory center. Without this knowledge, the unsettling and sometimes weird imagery in the Mind’s Eye begs toooo many questions for most to accept the reality of the Mind’s Eye being a physical attribute of the human body. An amalgamation of images presents a visual resultant to the Mind’s Eye for further processing.

Most often, the mind passes this vision past our belief “filter”. Make no mistake, stored beliefs are a tool we all use for speed and efficiency in processing of perceptions. Essentially we are looking for previous experience to reduce the reasoning burden during conflict, thereby improving speed of processing and probability of results. Also, a belief reduces the burden of storage when a previous experience is recognized, allowing us to assume that we already stored what we recognized so we don’t have to store it again. Beliefs in this light are unmistakable as tools having a physical component.

Denial of the nature and purpose of beliefs is centered on the ephemeral aspect of a belief as being a collection of facts and opinions supported only by testimony. If toooo little credence is assigned a particular belief, the testimony (story about the experience of the previous perception) is held as toooo far fetched or containing obvious inaccuracies. Lack of trust in beliefs also emerges when the emotional component of beliefs is rejected or denied. Yet beliefs, understood or not, are a key element of all human behavior.

Beliefs are also at the root of most human troubles and difficulties. It’s easy to see that if a belief is held based on faulty testimony and/or distorted perceptions, ensuing results will be messy. Armed with this assumption, suspending beliefs until viability and accuracy are established, frees people from the grip of internal conflict; stuckness. This newfound freedom allows for discovery of personal power and the emergence of a clear image of self.
