> Just when I think I finally get a med combo to work, and I feel good (which is really all I'm asking here!)

<<<<It is great that you did finally find a cocktail that works. I know I struggled for years to find one too.

> In comes the S word (stress of everyday life) to throw a wrench in the works and cause a bit of chaos. A cold, a dying relative, a tornado girlfriend, a hard week at work, or all of the above..

<<< Stress is very hard to handle sometimes. Do you have relaxation techniques that help? Or do you have meds to help you with anxiety? I know that for me personally the breathing exercises don't do a thing, but taking a Neurontin when I'm anxious seems to help control my anxiety. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about that. I have read on the med board that some people also take it for alcoholism as well, with success. It couldn't hurt to ask.

> Part of this illness goes beyond the meds and the chemistry. I think I need to accept that this isn't going away, that it's manageable, and that it might be with me for a reason.

<<<I agree that you do need to accept that it isn't going away and that it is manageable. But the only reason it is with you is because of your brain chemistry. In times of stress, some do tend to think "It's my fault I have this", or "I'm being punished", but this just isn't true. I fought with these same thoughts as well. But, this is a disorder that runs in my family. It was simply odds that I got it, rather than my sisters. And I tend to feel that I have it because I can handle it. I would hate to see my sisters going through this. I know I can do it, I'm not so sure they could.

> It's a pain in the ass in some ways to know you're a bipolar alcoholic, but I really do believe in other ways it is a blessing to know your afflictions and to be able to exercise some control over your demons. Some people might wish they could have it so good (Yikes!)

<<<Try to keep posting, it helps! And it does help to know what is going on, as you can get the right medications to help alleviate the pain. I know it is hard during the holidays, the stress level goes through the roof. But, you'll get there. You'll be fine. If you are feeling extremely stressed, talk to your doctor. There is no reason to suffer needlessly. S/he can do something about it. Keep hanging on!
