Fees and meaning

Posted by Dinah on September 3, 2003, at 10:28:46

I know that my therapist charges about $15 more per session than most therapists in my town, including psychologists. I'm afraid he charges more to me than he charges to other clients. And mostly I'm afraid of what that says about how he feels about me. And I'm afraid to bring it up, because I don't want to make him mad at me. But it's sort of been a bristly irritant under the surface for a while now. Does he think I'm so annoying as a client that he needs to charge more to see me?

I thought about having someone call to inquire about his fees as a prospective new client. But someone rightly pointed out to me that such subterfuge could be detrimental to our relationship.

But I'm afraid he'll be mad if I bring it up.

Fees mean ever so much more than just the money.
