1 month into Effexor withdrawal

Posted by bucky on August 16, 2003, at 6:35:38

My adult daughter was on Effexor XR/75mg for a year and a half. She has been "discontinuing" it now gradually as directed by her MD....her first week or two was filled with those "electrical shock" feelings in her brain...and dizziness/nausea/general fatigue. It's been almost a month now since she has been totally off the stuff, and what concerns me is that now she is extremely irritated and almost irrational a great deal of the time. Very edgy and her temper flares at the drop of a hat. She is a very high-achieving/educated person, who is by nature high-strung, but this stuff is way beyond normal. It is affecting all of her relationships, her job, everything. She is like a caged tiger ready to chomp someone's head off! I have read about the irritability that comes with discontinuing Effexor....but any idea how much longer this will last? I know all folks are different, but any personal stories would really help......as well as any aids like vitamins/herbs/WHATEVER to ease some of her symptoms. Yoga as well as exercise and healthy eating seems to help for awhile, but a few minutes later, she's Medusa again! Any offered advice would be greatly appreciated....she is under alot of personal/financial stress right now, so I am sure that just adds to the pot.
Thanx....her worried mother the nurse.....
