Pristiq- My thoughts so far

Posted by darkstallionready4u on August 29, 2008, at 3:17:02

I was introduced to Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) by my pdoc a few weeks ago, but was extremely resistant to trying it, due to the disasterous experience with Effexor XR. I've been on it for exactly two weeks. Much to my surprise, it feels nothing like Effexor.

Although the first week was rough (which could have also been due to Pexeva withdrawal), the drug feels remarkably "clean" and devoid of some of the horrific side effects I had with Effexor XR. Here's my take on it so far:

Positives: More motivation and energy, slight reduction in anxiety, lack of severe side effects.

Negatives: Less interest in people/socializing, pronounced anger/hostility, slight increase in blood pressure (did not occur with Effexor or Cymbalta), very strong cravings for stimulants, but not food.

Here's my current regimen:
Pristiq, 50 mg/d
Provigil, 200 mg/d
BuSpar, 10 mg/d (5 mg bid.)
Ambien, 10 mg/n

I have also been consuming larger amounts of caffeine lately. Next week when I see my pdoc, I am going to ask about stopping the BuSpar and adding Remeron, since I've heard good things about mixing Remeron with SNRIs. My big concern with the Remeron is the horror stories about weight gain, which would be a deal breaker for me.

I would love to hear from anyone who is taking Remeron along with an SNRI, including the dosages, and how it's working out for you.

Take care :)
