Hiya,
Firstly, thank you for replying to my earlier post - and welcome to psycho-babble! I'm sorry to hear that your parents are playing down the problems that you are experiencing, and hope that you can get the help and advice that you need.
This is what I think: you come across as a very bright young person. It's true, mental illness often has a genetic component. During an initial assessment, it is standard for a psychiatrist to ask whether there is any history of mental illness in the family.
You may well have a diagnosable 'mood disorder' - but whether there is a clear diagnosis or not, if you are experiencing suicidal thoughts and withdrawing from those around you, these feelings need to be taken seriously. The important factor is the effect of your problems on your quality of life.
If you are having difficulties being taken seriously by your parents, it would be good to try talking to a teacher you trust, a school counselor or your local doctor. If these are unrealistic, there are several good charities for young people experiencing mental health problems. In the UK there is 'Young Minds' which has plenty of on-line information, and a help-line. It's a good idea to have a helpline (Samaritans, childline...) number handy in case you become scared/overwhelmed by your thoughts - it can be really helpful to talk to someone who will understand unconditionally.
I hope this helps. I'm sorry you are going through this and really hope you get the support you need.
Good luck and take care,
Libby
