In reply to anxiety and paxil and zoloft, posted by basham on September 4, 2004, at 12:23:51
I took paxil for three years, by the end I was on 30mg. It did absolutely nothing for me but make me worse. I was hospitalized and became very abusive to myself and to others. I Have done a lot of reading on drugs such as paxil zolofy and prozac and have not liked what I found. I read the book "prazac Backlash" and that scared the you know what out of me. I am currently experiencing postpartum depression and they keep trying to put me on those meds, but I am quite content with my benzos. I know for some people SSRIs have helped, but for others they have done harm. But there are many many drugs out there and you will most likely have to go through a lot before you find one that works for you. DO not settle if you don't think you are getting the right effects from your medication, it can make you worse. Ask your doctor as many questions as you can and tell him you would like info an all available drugs out there that he thinks could be beneficial to you. The problem with SSRIs like prozac and paxil is they work on your seratonin levels. When you are put on these drugs it is assumed you are not making enough seratonin but in some cases depression and mental health problems can be cause by an over production of ser. therefore when you go on prozac and paxil and things of that nature you can hurt yourself. What ssris do is not produce more ser. they in lamens terms trap it in your brain. It is made in point A and travels to point B where it is destroyed. The "good time" is when it is passing from point A to point B. Now for people who do not have enough ser. SSRI's binds it in the space betwean the points so it doesn't get to B and be destroyed . However If your brain is making too much ser. and that happens, well you can see where I am going with this. So when going on an antidepressant you need to consider that. If you want to learn more read Prozac Backlash, it helped me out a lot and is very interesting and resourseful. Maybe SSRIs are not the answer for you. Good luck.
> i was taking paxil for a long time until i had a huge 'episode' and my psych. switched me from paxil to zoloft. i've been on zoloft now for about a year (150 mgs) and i always feel medicated where i don't ever remember feeling that way when i was on paxil. i thought this feeling would go away by now. now i am wondering if i should go back on paxil or if anyone else has had these similar thoughts. i take lorazepam every morning just to make my head feel not so 'dizzy'. please, let me know if you've experienced anything similar to this or have any advice... thank you
