Hi and welcome :-)... I do not think there is any set limit as to how long is too long. Are you thinking of hurting yourself because of fear of leaving therapy? Or maybe its cause 10 years have gone by and youre a different person and thus not therapy at all? I hope you do talk to your therapist about this and please know you can post all over the boards This thread may get a LOT of attention on the psychology board as we talk a lot about our therapists over there..aka T's :) Please look all over Babble there are a lot of really nice people who share similar issues and can help or just be a shoulder...I have found the site very helpful myself and am not new but only have been on here maybe 4 months. Maybe regarding your therapy you can ask yourself if you have made ANY progess in any way? That may help...I am so glad you found the site :) KEEP posting and jump in anywhere,....anytime...HUGS
> How long is too long to stay in therapy? I have been seeing the same therapist for 10 years, and I can't stand the thought of stopping, but I don't know if I am getting anything out of it. I know I am lonely. I know I like the 45 minutes of having someone focused on me. I don't think I ever thought about hurting myself before therapy, but now I think about it at least once a week. And I am afraid that if I tell my therapist, he will say it is time for us to stop.
