It's very simple and obvious to the most casual observer. When you introduce cortisone or any variety of it to the person, the body cannot tell that it came from outside the body or is exogenous. The body now recognizes it has enough cortisone and doesn't have to work as hard to make new cortisone. Therefore the adrenals who make the cortisone have a chance to rest and recover. Once the adrenals do not have to make as much of their own cortisol the hormonal cascade can proceed in a more normal fashion.
