Worried about diabetes

How much water is it normal to drink? I drank 2 medium diet Cokes before work, 1 L of water during work and I just drank 500 mL water. I'm probably going to drink another litre of water before I go to bed.
I'm not sure if I have excessive thirst. Sometimes I'm thirsty and drink a lot.
I'm worried I have diabetes, but I'm hesitant about getting a check up because I'm fat right now and I'm embarrassed about my body.
