Is Abilify ever prescribed with Lamictal (400 mgs day) to smooth out mood swings?
My hubby just saw his P doc again (I went with him) and the P doc only mentioned anti-convulsant drugs for BP2 and that my hubby is on the mildest one. Certainly Lamictal alone (no other psych drugs but does take Namenda for memory loss associated with multiple sclerosis) has been the best treatment. Antidepressants just made him more wildly manicy and depressed (has alcoholic & drug addiction history) and it took me many years to get through to docs what was going on. One of my hubby's symptoms is that he blames anything and everything and in a sense I would say is not always on target (as in reality) with what's going on around him. He's still functional in the sense that he's able to work.
I read in a magazine adv that Abilify is used for BP - asked a social worker therapist about it who said that she knows people who find it works very well for their BP2. His psych is a nice guy but not exactly on the cutting edge. I'm wondering if I should push trying Abilify? He's not under control and the psych even mildly agreed with that. He has a lot of agitation and anger (w/o real cause) although these can also go along with MS.
Seroquel caused diabetes & he was absolutely stoned so I'm a bit nervous about bringing in new drugs. Would like to know if Abilify is safe to use w/Lamictal and what is the concensus?
Thanks, everyone!
