Well, this spring I was at the low-normal range for my hematocrit
and from March-June I was basically living off of pure carbohydrates. I had a very poor diet. Very poor.
My nails have a slew of white spots, which can indicate deficiencies in zinc and/or protein, and a variety of other things.
I wasn't taking a multivitamin that had iron. I didn't realize it, but when I bought the new bottle of multivitamins and they were making me pukey, I looked. The only difference is the ferrous fumarate.
yuck.
Anyways. Women my age need iron becuase we lose blood. My friend who was training to do Chinese medicine took a look at my mucuous membranes inside my mouth and eyelids and told me how to recognize when I needed more meat in my diet (too pale and pink. needs more red.)
I had a burger last night. it was good. maybe I should try harder to get the iron from heme foods. I like red meat. I feel better when I eat red meat at least once or twice a week.
