Doesn't it say in the Bible not to test God?
It probably is coincidence, but even if it means something, do you think that God would tell you not to come to church or that your situation is hopeless? One of the tests of a true message from God is to test it against scripture and what you know of God.
Maybe the reason you aren't supposed to test God is that it gives an opportunity for doubt and despair to wedge its way in, with false messages we perceive incorrectly to be from God.
Can you instead be still and know that God *is*? Listen for the still small voice. What does it tell you? Read Psalms. They are full of the struggles that man has had throughout the ages, dealing with suffering and unfairness and a desire to feel close to the Creator.
For some reason, Psalm 131 is one of my favorites. Perhaps because it feels so homey and reachable to me.
"O Lord, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; my soul is like the weaned child that is with me. O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time on and forevermore."
